Jimmy Crowley has been a central figure in the Irish folk scene since the enthusiastic reception of his debut album The Boys of Fairhill in 1977. With his band Stokers Lodge their mission was to present the street ballads of Cork city complimented by the ornate folk songs of the rural hinterland of Cork and Kerry in an exciting orchestration of uilleann pipes, concertina, autoharp, harmonium, mandolin, bouzouki and guitar in their native accent. The second album, Camphouse Ballads hurtled the band into the vortex of the folk scene; they were now performing at folk festivals and making tv appearances in Ireland, Britain and America .Both albums were produced by Micheál �? Dómhnaill of the Bothy Band. Like Chris Twomey of Stokers Lodge, Micheál was a seminal influence in Jimmy�??s musical education.

"The Irish storyteller, singer and actor Mairtin de COGAIN (vocals, bodhran) sent, together with Brian Miller (guitar, bouzouki, Shruti Box), Norah Rendell (flute, whistles, vocals) and guest fiddler Nathan Gourley greetings from his home town, was added Live in St. Paul, Minnesota." "Mairtin sings cover versions, traditional and original songs, telling his stories and plays with the band tunes fleet. There is "The Star of Sunday's Well", a text from the 19th Century by William B. Guiney, a poet from Cork; Mairtin sings the poem A Capella for Shruti Box. "Jiggin 'around Cork" is a set of traditional jigs from Cork, performed brilliantly with tin whistle, bouzouki, fiddle and bodhran. Then he tells the audience says "How to make proper tea", a real laugh. Norah, Mairtin and the audience sing "Johnny go boating", as you would most like to sing myself, and Norah charmed with the beautiful guitar ballad "The Rose of Coburg Street." The Irish text of "Gr�?¡ d�?¡ raibh" comes from Mairtin, the music he wrote with The Fuchsia Band, a rhythmic folk song. Another highlight is the up-beat set of "Reel Cork like," Fiddling with great, bouzouki / bodhran rhythm and the rich sound of the Irish flute." "The album is a fun trip to the in my opinion most beautiful city in Ireland, the typical chant of Corkish English, the rousing tunes and great songs can travel thoughts. "

CelticFest Mississippi is an annual celebration of the music, dance and culture of Celtic nations and will celebrate its 22nd year on September 6-8 at the Miss. Agricultural and Forestry Museum. CelticFest, founded and organized by the Celtic Heritage Society, will kick off the weekend events on Friday from 7:00 p.m. till midnight and run from 10:00 a.m. to midnight the following two days.

On Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20, 2013, we will feature local masters of traditional Irish, bluegrass and "old-timey" American music. With the Saturday concert at Connolly�??s Klub 45, and events at other Manhattan venues, the New York Tradfest will include concerts, informal music sessions and singers circles, and a special "Masters of Trad" presentation on traditional music heroes in New York City. Founded in 2000 by Professor Mick Moloney, The Washington Square Harp and Shamrock Orchestra (or WSHSO, for short) is based at New York University and made up of musicians from the City's Irish music community. The WSHSO plays traditional Irish music and recalls the Irish-American dance bands of the early twentieth century, like The Four Provinces Orchestra, Dan Sullivan's Shamrock Band, Pat Roche's Harp and Shamrock Orchestra, and Erin's Pride Orchestra. The WSHSO performs regularly and has appeared at Symphony Space, St. Patrick's Cathedral, St. Patrick's Old Cathedral, the American Irish Historical Society, the Consulate General of Ireland in New York, the Irish Arts Center, Town Hall, the University Club, the Manhattan Club at Rosie O'Grady's, the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, WFUV radio, New York's City Hall, Battery Park, South Street Seaport Museum and, of course, NYU's Glucksman Ireland House.
